The Week of the Show

2 Nights done, 2 to go. Feedback so far has been very positive on both the show (oh yes it has!) and also the food.

All attendees have been treated to a 2 course supper of Supreme of Chicken, with a Mushroom & Madeira Cream Sauce, Dauphinois Potatoes, Roasted Carrots and Kale. Pudding has been either Gingerbread brûlée with a Gingerbread Star Biscuit, or a Spiced Apple Cake with Hot Butterscotch Sauce, Vanilla Ice Cream, and a Shortbread Crumb.

As for the show itself - who cares after such a lovely meal?? I will be able to judge for myself tomorrow as I am coming to the final night.

Huge thanks to all the cast and team who have put so much effort into making the week a success as always. Some pictures from the first 2 nights can be seen further down this email. Looks like a lot of fun.

Hole in one!

Congratulations to Andy Penfold who had his very first hole in one on the 15th this Wednesday.

He assures us that he fixed his pitch mark...... if only everyone else would!

Winter mat rule reminder

Reminder - mats are currently optional for all play UNLESS it is a handicap qualifying card.

If using a mat, the rule is that you must use a mat on all areas of the course where the grass is fairway height or less, UNLESS you are using a putter.

Please note, during a competition you cannot use a mat from the semi-rough, you must play your ball as it lies.

Can I again remind you - the 2 strips at the edge of the fairway that used to be semi rough were turned into fairway about 5 weeks ago. We did communicate it a couple of times back then, but this is a reminder.

Attention drivers!

Do take care with the one-way system in the car park. In particular, as you pass the pro shop, please resist the temptation to nip round that first right-hand turn as you might well end up staring bumper-to-bumper at someone who is going the correct way, as has happened to a member recently... (Yes, Céline this includes you!)

Calendar

We have 14 Piltdown calendars pre-ordered from members and we've got 30 arriving tomorrow. We'll have one on the bar for you to thumb through, so if you'd like one, let us know. They are £15, with all proceeds going to the Captains' charities.

We will send out a few of the images in a preview early next week.

Course News

Nothing from the Green staff this week, but I am delighted to let you know that I was very pleased with the condition of the course during my 2 brief course walks this week.

Greens were hand cut yesterday, and then ironed today, and all tees and approaches were cut today. Considering we are nearly in December, it really is in good shape out there.

Buggies and trolleys remain a major topic of conversation with members. Some of you think we should be stricter, some of you think we should be more lenient with what we allow and when - basically you need to trust us to make the best possible decision on a daily basis. We weigh up many factors when making decisions about trolleys, buggies etc including course condition, damage to the course, health and safety of users, trying to keep people playing as much as possible etc etc. We always do our best.

The Weekend

Tomorrow we have an All Day Mixed Stableford. £5 to enter including 2s. This is open to all members with a handicap, including Academy. Juniors can play as long as they are playing with at least one adult, and have a max handicap of 18 for boys and 30 for girls. Play can be from Yellow or Blue tees for men/boys, and red or blue for ladies/girls. To enter, please pay your fiver in the Pro Shop, register your intent with George, and then sign into the touch screen in the entrance hall. As this is a handicap qualifier - you can use as many clubs as you want, and you MUST use fairway mats.

Have a great weekend,

Phil Bonsall
Secretary
