EGM Tomorrow

What a glorious week of weather we have had. I hope those of you who have managed to get out and play have enjoyed it. This is the 3rd year in a row when this particular week has been nice, and hopefully we are heading for our 3rd year of good weather for the Drive-In on Sunday.

Before that is the EGM tomorrow when Tsol & Annie will take over from the hard working Robin & Carol who have done a great job during the last 12 months.

The meeting is at 5pm, so if you are free do please come along.

In John Turzynski's green report to the EGM he mentions a detailed heather plan that has been drawn up. Please click here to read it.  I appreciate that is quite hard to read on a screen - we have some A1 boards made up which will be in the clubhouse from tomorrow which will be much clearer.

Hole in one!

Well done Peter for a splendid hole in one on the 7th hole Monday 6th! The pin was 182 yards away and he struck a perfect 4 rescue, which apparently never left its target. Nice work!

Pyecombe Pitcher

Our Pyecombe Pitcher side had a great run this year, but lost their semi-final at Pyecombe last Sunday. Some close games, but unfortunately we lost 3.5 to 1.5. Still, another great effort by skipper Derek Elphick. Here they are pictured just before teeing off, missing Ethan and Neil who were practicing!

Captain's Drive In

On Sunday the new Captains will drive in to office at approximately 1.20pm

Tsol, Annie and Evie will all tee off from the 1st, and there are wine and nibbles available in the clubhouse.

Evie takes over from Ryan Wills as Junior Captain. Ryan has done an excellent job representing the Club this year, and has managed to play some excellent golf himself culminating in a gross 66 at Piltdown last Sunday to win the Southon Salver.

Please come along and support them.

ALL DAY MEDAL TOMORROW

There is a men's white tee medal tomorrow. Sign up and pay your fiver in advance in the shop, then enter you score in the machine after your round.

LADIES & TUESDAY BOYS GOLF & LUNCH ON THURSDAY

We have more ladies signed up than men. Can you help balance the numbers? 18 holes foursomes followed by lunch. Either sign up online, or let me know by reply. The draw will be done early next week, so to guarantee your place please sign up over the weekend.

UK Power Network Works

We are having our Electricity Supply upgraded in the coming weeks. This is long overdue, and will also enable us to go Calor Gas free in the new kitchen next year. As part of the enabling works, our contractors and then UKPN need to work next to the Wooden Pylon at the edge of the overflow car park. This work starts tomorrow (Saturday).

For the next few weeks please do not park in the first 4 or 5 spaces of the overflow, especially during day time hours.

There will also be some road closures on 21st October to allow UKPN to carry out some of the work, so please leave a little extra time to get to the Club that day, and there is a good chance we will be without electricity for some or all of the day TBC

Thanks for your understanding.

Lost Ping Wedge

Academy member Chris Davies has recently bought a full set of Ping Clubs from Jason. Unfortunately, he left the U Wedge near the chipping green and it is yet to be handed in. Did you perhaps pick it up and put it in your bag with the intention of handing it in next time you are here? If so, and you still have it, please get in touch before he orders a replacement. It is a G440 U Wedge.

From the Course

Another week has flown by and the grass is still growing like it was summer! This takes up most of our time, with everything needing multiple cuts each week to keep it looking sharp and fresh. The strips down the side of the holes that used to be semi-rough and are now fairway have been lowered in height again, with the definition between fairway and rough really starting to take shape.

Personally I have spent a lot of time on the tractor carrying out overseeding work as mentioned last week. If you are wondering what all the small slits are that are running through some fairways - that is the seed being planted below the level of the playing surface. It's not quite finished yet, so I will be carrying on into next week.

Heather weeding and maintenance is still going strong, both with the digger for the larger weeds and saplings, and lots of hand work on the in play areas such as heather mounds.

We also applied our fortnightly mix of fertiliser this week, and I'm very pleased with how well the greens have recovered from last weeks overseeding and top dressing. We have ironed the greens this morning, so hopefully they should play really well over the weekend.

I hope you are managing to get out and enjoy this lovely October weather, and are pleased with the condition of the course.

Deputy Course Manager
