The third hole is a lengthy and challenging par four, which is played around Piltdown pond. A sharp right-hand dog-leg requires a well placed drive to avoid trees on the inside of the elbow and provide a clear sight of the green. An ideal drive will move left to right and should provide a shorter second. Favouring the left-hand side of the fairway is generally a safer option, but will inevitably leave a much longer approach to the green. A water filled ditch and a substantial stretch of heather needs to be crossed before heading uphill to a green, which slopes steeply from back to front. An uphill putt is desirable.
