Officially the Clubhouse closes at 8 p.m. in the summer and 5 p.m. in the winter, but it is frequently alive with the sound of music, laughter and applause long after that. Internal competitions in the summer are often followed by a fork supper, and many Friday evenings in the winter-time are given over to social events of one sort or another, including bridge.
Revues, Cabarets, Plays and Theme Parties
The time-consuming nature of producing these events means that they do not happen every year, but when they do the response is dynamic. Those who want to attend have to be quick off the mark when the list goes up as every ticket is sold within days, and often there is such a clamour from disappointed applicants that extra performances have to be arranged.
Sometimes the presentation is in a night-club style, with tables scattered around a dance floor and food and drink consumed more or less continuously, a pattern which is particularly suitable for cabarets, jazz parties, carols sing-songs and other musical evenings.
Every third or fourth Friday during the winter months, a group of members get together and occupy a dozen or more tables to play Chicago. A hot supper is provided to fortify the players during the evening.
Other Social Events
General Knowledge quizzes have been popular in the past and our own versions of television games such as Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and Call My Bluff have enjoyed excellent support from the members. We are lucky enough to have among our members several experts in interesting topics who have given fascinating expositions of their subjects for the entertainment and enlightenment of the members.
Annual Men's Dinner
With the extended lounge area we are able to accommodate higher numbers at the Annual Men's Dinner when Lizzie, Hazel and their team regularly provide a superb meal for over 80 members.
Annual Summer Event
A Summer Ball usually held on an August evening either in the Clubhouse or in Marquees on the lawns. Music and dance for all to enjoy.
